Eveque Sportshall London Secondary Schools
Final 2008

24 April 2008

Brunel University once again hosted the London Secondary Schools Sportshall League Final this year. World Indoor Long Jump Silver medallist Chris Tomlinson watched on as Year 7 pupils from across London gathered to find the Regional team champions.

Jo Richardson School (423 pts) eventually came out on top in what was a very closely fought final. Great teamwork and support was on display from all of the eight school finalists and a win in the final girls relay sealed victory. Lee Valley (400 pts) and Haberdasher Aske (Knights Academy) (395 pts) took the other medal places.

It was clear that the children had benefited from the skills and experiences that they had gained from competing across the winter. Each of the 19 School Sport Partnership Leagues ran four matches from November to February with the top teams progressing through to an area Semi Final in March. The format of the events had changed this season and thanks must go to all of the league organisers for their hard work across the winter.

Having impressed Chris Tomlinson with their commitment and competitive spirit further presentations were made to athletes of the match - Sasianne Saku from St Angela’s, convincing winner of the girls 6 lap race and Damani Ekeana from Lee Valley who jumped a fantastic 2.38m in the Standing Long Jump, 6.86m in the Triple Jump and second place in the 2 Lap Sprint.
