About Aviva UKA Academy Sportshall Awards

The new Aviva UKA Academy Sportshall Awards form an integral part of the Sportshall Pathway and encourages skill development and fitness improvement. The Sportshall Awards are designed to …

  • Support the teaching of key athletic skills
  • Encourage and reward individual progress
  • Engage whole classes, year groups and schools
  • Monitor and encourage improvement in fitness levels
  • Enable intra-school, inter-school and virtual competition
  • Assist preparations for Sportshall competition

The Sportshall Awards are based on the Sportshall Decathlon, a series of ten activities designed to provide a well-balanced measure of skills and fitness. An alternative Pentathlon is also included to those who do not have access to a full set of Decathlon equipment.

Completing an Award

Performances in each of the selected events are recorded on either individual Score Cards or class score sheets with points then being allocated as detailed on the Points Table. These points are totalled and the award level achieved is revealed by reference to the Ladder of Success. Awards may be completed in one session or alternatively spread over a series of weeks. Measuring and recording can be done easily by teachers, the participant’s peer group or older students and Sports Leaders.

Monitoring Fitness and Improvement

The new Sportshall Awards provide a standard series of tests and a measure by which individuals, classes and schools may be compared against national age group averages. We are looking for schools to join in a national fitness monitoring project and would welcome enquiries from anyone who is interested.
